♥♥♥ 5 'Ex-Angel Turned Sexy Rockstar' Stars ♥♥♥

“I've been broken and she's my missing pieces, all of them. My heart wants what it wants. She is the other half of my soul. I will never feel whole until she's mine.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Okay... I have had this since it came out and I hadn't read it. WHY!?! I know not. But I am kicking myself because I freaking LOVED Shane's POV. He was so AWESOME!! And funny and sexy, and just... I have no words. Loved it!

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"Love is patiently waiting for centuries to touch someone's lips again; love was giving up everything of yourself to let someone else be safe. Love is that breathless feeling when you want someone. It's the need to be a part of someone or you won't feel whole."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"I never FELL. I was PUSHED, and now I’m a HUMAN, not a fallen angel. I’m not dishonored, I was betrayed. I wasn’t humiliated, I was humbled. I’m not fallen, because I was forgiven.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I think what kept me away from this, was that I had read books in the past where a book comes out in the male POV and it didn't really add anything new to the story. It was pretty much the same thing. In this book, yeah we get a lot of the same but that is because he was in a lot of scenes with Grace. BUT... there were also parts where we find out what he was doing, what he was thinking, and what happened to him when he wasn't with Grace. I LOVED every moment of it. If I didn't love him before, well I without a doubt do now. He was super Alpha, like extremely so, and it was highly entertaining to read. He would become possessive and jealous of any male that came near Grace. It was actually really hilarious reading all of his inner banter and the banter between him with the other characters. He could be so freaking sweet and romantic too. The way he would give it all up for his soulmate and fight for their forbidden love... SIGH! I can't say enough how much I love him! I seriously can't believe I forgot how SEXY he could be.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"You want to be my first, Shane?"

"No, baby. I'm going to be your last."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I already liked Grace from the first two books which were in her POV. (In case you didn't know, this book is the two books combined in Shane's POV.) I still really like her in this book too. Which I was surprised. Usually I end up disliking the female lead when reading the story in the male pov. But not here. I still liked her badassness. She was strong woman and although she gave my ovaries... I mean... Shane an extreme case of blue balls, she was still really awesome. I loved it when she stood up to that weird Bliss chick. I also liked how Alex would joke around with her about trying to get her v-card. He was so freaking funny!

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"The idea of a twenty-three year old virgin is thought to be an endangered species. So, I was hoping you would let us take you through the spiritual journey of this undiscovered land. I'd like to start a blog, a documentary of sorts, about the experience of going where no penis has gone before."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Well, pretty much all the band members would joke around with her. All of it was highly entertaining. I really liked how she dealt with Tucker (whom I forgot could be so damn annoying). I really enjoyed reading Grace interact with Lea, I forgot how freaking hilarious Lea was. Even Grace could be too, like when they messed around with Lea's mom. But Lea was the most hilarious, out there, female character.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“Put a damn shirt on and cover up your eighteen pack or whatever you got going on under that skin, you are making me drool.”

“Lea, stop saying crap like that to me and stop gawking, awkward.”

Lea smiled down at me, “You, sir are a bit easy on the eye, so therefore I shall stare at you. If you feel at all uncomfortable, I could always knock you over the head with something until you’re unconscious and take pictures.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“Holy Discovery Channel Sex, Conner, we are going to get caught in a porn storm between these two. Conner you better be coming with us too, because if I have to watch them making googley-steamy-nasty-dirty-sex-eyes at each other, there won’t be a vibrator in the world big enough to satisfy me.”

--Lea

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Lea was not wrong. The sexual frustration was killing me, as it was Shane. People and electronics kept standing in their way. I'm surprised his balls didn't just fall off because damn, that wait was so long. I could have totally helped Shane out, thank god she gave in eventually. It was worth the wait, Shane was unbelieveably SWOONY!!! The things he said and thought... heart and panty melting. *BIG SIGH* He was just perfect and so romantic.

Then there was the cray cray angel, Gabriel. I didn't remember him being so freaking creepy and crazy, but he was. I really hated him. I still don't get how he was able to get away with doing what he did to them for so long. I loved the ending because now I know what happened to Shane and what he did to save Grace. But I was left wanting more. And wondering what happened to Gabriel. Is he going to come back eventually?? I don't know. I'm kind of hoping there will be a continuation to the series by how things ended.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"Let me in, because I promise you, I will pick up every little broken piece of you, every single fucking piece Grace. For the rest of my fucking life, I will put you back together...I will make you whole again."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

The epilogue was so fantastic. My heart was overjoyed for them. I also am so happy that I got to see what happened with Connor and Lea. I thought that was really great. Like I mentioned before, this book had a lot from the previous books but it also had some things added to it. I'm not sure if people would enjoy this book as much as I did, if they read the whole series continuously. But since I read those two books in probably close to a year ago, I really enjoyed it. Overall, I loved it! If you enjoyed the previous books or just enjoy male pov books, I definitely recommend you give this a try.

Sometimes you forget how much you love someone, until you realize their smile is like a spotlight shined on your heart.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

In Bring Me Home, Claire was left with a very big decisions. After both Adam and Chris, put their hearts out there, she has to choose with whom she will stay with. I couldn't wait to start this book and find out. I've got to say that I was extremely happy with the fact that Claire took her time in choosing. She didn't rush it, quite a few weeks passed by before her heart was able to tell her who she really loved. I also liked that she wasn't one of those annoying indecisive characters that you see when faced in a situation like this. She handled it in a mature manner. You can really see how she has grown from the first book.

“Sometimes letting someone go is the ultimate act of love.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Well, I can't belive my guy ended up being the one she chose. I had always favoured him more, just slightly. It was hard to choose. Both guys were fantastic loving men. I'm kind of sad though, I know it's weird but if there was a way for them all to be together somehow, I would be so happy. Of course, that would never work. But I felt she was so great with Adam, and just as great with Chris. I've never had such a hard time choosing just one guy ever when it comes to "love triangles". I usually choose one and stick with him. But it was so difficult in this book. In the end my guy was chosen, so I am still happy with who she ended up with. I would have liked a bit more fight on the guy that was losing her, but it didn't happen. I was upset at first but I realize it was for the best. They had all changed so much during the course of the three books that their feelings for each other just weren't the same.

"Claire, the love of my life and mother of my child. The owner of my heart and soul and the inspiration for every song I write. If you ever doubt how much I love you, I'll always be there to remind you."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I loved that this book was in all of their POV's again, as well as some other characters. I love knowing what they were thinking during certain situations. I loved knowing how they were feeling because then I got why things happened the way they did. I felt for the man who lost but I am also so happy he ended up having a happily ever after too. I was happy for Claire and the man she chose because there were so many moments that you knew they were meant to be. I would have like her decision to have been made a little later in the book rather than so early on. But at least we weren't dying with finding out. I swooned, and melted. Both Adam and Chris did that to me. I loved how mature these men came to be, especially when compared to the beginning of this series. I loved some of the secondary characters. They were all very supportive and some even very honest. But they were always there for Claire when she needed them.

“There are moments in life, and they happen so infrequently that they tend to really stand out, when life hands you the gift of perspective. Sometimes, we forget to show our appreciation. Sometimes, we get our priorities mixed up. And, sometimes, we forget how far we’ve come. But life always has a way of nudging you to remind you about these important things.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

The open adoption scenes tore at my heart strings. I can understand why Claire was so hesitant now to see her daughter. But I am so glad that she now had Chris to help her face her child. One scene in particular made me have tears in my eyes. It was just so beautiful to see Chris and Abigail interacting, and yet so heart breaking. I felt like Claire finally got the closure that she needed in that situation, as well as with everything in her past. Adam and Chris also got their closure in some way. They were able to heal, forgive, learn from their mistakes and move on, until they all got the Happily Ever After they deserved to have. The ending was really great but the epilogue was the best. There was an epilogue for each of the three main characters. It was really sweet and had my heart warming with joy for all of them. I was very happy with the outcome. It was wonderful ending to the series.

I can't believe the ending left me hanging like that. Those darn cliffhangers. I MUST read the next one to find out what happens.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“Adam, I love you. I’ll wait six days or six years. Whatever it takes. Nothing and no one else matters.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

As I said in my review of the previous book. By the end of it, I was leaning slighty towards Chris in who she should end up with. So when this book started, I was so ready for them to rekindle that relationship as well as see them deal with the big secret of the last book. I liked Claire in the beginning because she never tried to lead Chris on of a possible reconciliation. She knew she wanted to be with Adam. (Even though I really wanted something to happen... yes I'm evil.) Soon that changed, near the end. She has no idea who to choose and I don't blame her. Both guys are really great, I still don't know either. Right when I decide, something happens to change my mind. It drove me crazy. So I would NOT want to be in her position. What I didn't like, was how she reacted to the secret. I don't understand why she couldn't face it like Chris was doing. I still don't get her fear and then later regretting it. I mean come on, do you want to be a part of the secret or not. Anyways, later on, her indecision was getting me a bit annoyed. I didn't think either of them deserved to get hurt. It took Chris's mom for her to realize she needs time alone.

"You're the best thing that ever happened to me," he whispers in my ear. "I'll break all the rules to keep you."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Oh Adam... I liked him enough in the first book but I ended up liking him so much more near the end. In the beginning, I still loved his stupid jokes and how he was with Claire. He really wants to be there for her and doesn't judge her for the decisions she has made in her life. He can be sweet and supportive. Still, his temper is there that freaks me out. You never know when his anger will control him, and that is the only thing that really worries me about Adam. I know he is a great guy and would never hurt Claire, but when he gets angry it's quite scary. I like that that is changing though. Claire is making him a better person, and is more calmer than he ever was in his past. He was a bit insecure in this book and I totally understand why, I mean I would too. He goes to Hawaii to compete, pretty much leaving Claire to Chris. So I get his nervousness. There was on part where I thought he was really stupid, but again, I got his reasoning for what he did.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“You’re mine, and a piece of you will always belong to me the same way a piece of me will always belong to you.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I was kind of rooting for Chris from the start. He and Claire share a history of being each other's first loves. They have a bond that seems pretty unbreakable, so I felt like they were meant to be. I wanted so many times for him to pursue her, but he wouldn't because she was in a relationship and he respected her. But when he finally does, I was internally screaming with excitement. They are just so comfortable with each other and they know so much of one another. Regardless to Claire hurting him, he still really cares about her. He wants to keep her this time and not let go. But I've come to realize that no matter how much I want them to be together, that maybe their feelings for each other isn't love anymore. At least in Claire's part. She seems to really love Adam. But I love Chris damnit! And Adam! I'm so confused. He totally melted my heart with his lyrics and the thing he did in the ending... SWOON! Oh even Adam made me swoon hard in the ending too.

image

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“Most people think that they want spacious homes, but they don’t realize how the emptiness of a large room just amplifies the emptiness in a broken heart. And we’re all broken, in one way or another.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

It looks like Claire needs to have some serious thinking time. Because both guys have put all their cards on the table, now it's just time for her to choose who she is going to stay with. Not an easy decision to make, that's for sure. There was quite a bit of drama and angst in this book, which is what had me turning the page. I loved that this book was in the three main character's POVs. I got to understand Adam better, which may be why I loved him a lot more in this book. I got to see Adam's thoughts on Claire and some glimpses of their past. It was really sweet. Claire is still a bit messed up by her past, and so she feels undeserving of love. Some news comes to light about her mother in this book. So I'm guessing more on that will be in the next book. I enjoyed this book better than the first, but it did confuse the hell out of me. What's a girl to do when two hot guys, who are great catches, are after you? I have no clue. I must read what happens next. I want to know her choice. Overall, a really great read.

Relentless (Shattered Hearts, #1) - Cassia Leo

♥♥♥ 3.75 "Olive you" Stars ♥♥♥

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“I guess we both had to lose something to find each other.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Relentless is about a nineteen year old girl named Claire who is just trying to move forward, day by day. Her upbringing was not an ideal one, but she was happy. That is, until her mother died of a drug overdose. From then on, she has been moved from one foster home to another. She finally finds a woman that cares about her and a son, Chris, that shows her what love is for the first time. Chris aspires to be a rock star, so she breaks up with him so she doesn't hold him back. One year later, she meets Adam, a surfer guy who can't seem to stay away from her. Very soon they start to fall for each other, but Claire is hiding a big secret.

When I started the book, it really intrigued me. You get a glimpse at what her life was like as a child with her drug addicted mother. They loved each other. I actually liked how much her mother cared about Claire. It moves back to the present where she works at a cafe and meets Adam. From then on, I had trouble connecting with the characters. I felt like their relationship was moving too fast. Especially when they didn't see much of each other during the week, only weekends. But I decided to see if things got a bit better.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

With every choice you risk the life you could have had. With every decision you lose it.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

What I liked about Claire Nixon was that she was independent and she was a good friend. Considering what she had gone through, which was really heartbreaking, she was still had a bit of a cheery personality. I loved that she references Titanic (because I totally do too!). When she meets Adam, she calls him Jack Dawson because of his good looks and well, because she didn't know his name. I liked that she was still very much strong. What I didn't like about her, was her meditation, which she did way too much. It was what she used to cope (which is fine by me), but she was overdoing it, trying to bury all her emotions deep inside instead of letting them out and confronting them. I didn't think she would love again, and it took her awhile but I'm glad that she did. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that once she accepted what she felt and willingly wanted to be open with Adam, she still held back valuable information from him. I understand why, but I really wanted her to trust him.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"I love you, Claire. I want to make you happier than you've ever been."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

When I first met Adam Parker, I thought he seemed like a really nice guy. He was freaking persistent, let me tell ya. No matter how many times Claire insisted she didn't want to date, he kept pursuing her with the "I just want to be friends" line. Of course, he wanted more, but he was biding his time. I can't say that I loved Adam, but I did get to really like him in the end. Because there was a point in which I thought, Claire might be better off without him. He has quite the temper which totally freaked me out, and I kept thinking... 'how does this not scare her and get her running'. He could be a bit hot and cold at times because of it, which usually I don't mind, but I didn't really like with him. Maybe it was because I had trouble understanding him. In the end I really liked him, and his sweet words, funny lame jokes, and how he was there for her when she finally opened up. They really worked together and I enjoyed seeing them interact.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"Claire I miss us. I still think about you every day."

"Don't do this."

"And you know what I think about? I think about how I can have any girl I want, except for you. How fucked up is that?..."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Then there was rock star Chris Knight. We got glimpses of him throughout the book through Clarie's flashbacks. I loved seeing how their relationship was like. I liked him instantly. He was super sweet and patient with Claire. He waited two years before they finally did the deed. They connected through music and that was a way for him to show her how he felt, through his lyrics. He shows up in the present time near the end during which the big secret is revealed. He still has feelings for Claire and remembers her constantly. He also wants her back and wants to make sure she stays. I don't know if the author did this on purpose, but if she did, she totally has me confused. Remember... I didn't "love" Adam, but I liked him. I also really liked Chris. NOW WHO THE HECK AM I SUPPOSE TO CHOOSE?? Don't worry, the story doesn't really involve a love triangle, per say... I'm just talking about me.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“The relentless pull of love is a thousand times harder to fight than the tides. If you’re lucky, you’ll make it out before you drown. If you’re even luckier, you’re pulled under just long enough to wash away the sorrow. If you’re really lucky, like me, you resurface just in time to find the one you love floating right beside you.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

The ending left off on a happy note. So, I was glad about that. I'm kind of excited to read the next one now. It started really good. The middle was okay for me, and the ending picked up again and I was enjoying the drama. Like I said, there was no love triangle, but I feel like that might change in the next book. Afterall, Chris said he wasn't giving up. I still don't know if I'm Team Adam or Team Chris. But I think for right now, I'm actually kind of swaying towards Chris. Oh, the decisions! Let's see what happens. Overall, it was a great read.

Lost and Found - Nicole Williams image

Lost and Found is about an eighteen year old girl, Rowen, who aspires to go to art school in Seattle. Unfortunately, that may not happen, until she proves herself to her mother that she isn't the troubled girl that she has been growing up. That was the deal. Spend the summer working at her mother's friend's ranch sans pay. Rowen was kind of goth-ish, with her dyed black hair, dark lipstick, and dark revealing clothes. She's use to people thinking she is a freak. But that changes completely when she meets Jesse. He is a young gorgeous cowboy who sees her as the person she is.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

The only person who could fix Rowen was Rowen.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I really liked Rowen, in that she didn't care what people really thought of her. At least that is how she seemed in the surface, really she had an entire fortress built around her so that she could never get hurt. She had alot to move on from, her mother was never supportive of her. She doesn't know what it's liked to be loved by her mother because her mother never showed her affection. I felt so bad for her and how she thought she was undeserving of love. I absolutely hated her mother, she was a horrible woman. I can't believe she was so selfish and uncaring about her ONLY child. I was so happy she found what she never had in her mother's friend, Rose. Now, that woman was wonderful. I loved her.

image

Jesse Walker is Rose's nineteen year old son and he is the one that picks Rowen up from the bus station. Their connection is immediate. I loved reading their funny banter. It was quite adorable. It was interesting how well they got along considering how opposite they were. Jesse was hard working charming young man. He is very positive with a sunny personality and dimpled grin. He sees the person not the 'freak' people think of when they see Rowen. He pursues her until she finally agrees to go out with him. Throughout their summer together, he shows her what a great person she is.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“We don’t deserve anything Rowen. We don’t deserve punishment, we don’t deserve happiness, life owes us nothing. Realize that.” His voice wasn’t gentle anymore; it was as strong as I’d ever heard it. “So we have to take what we want because life sure as shit isn’t going to freely hand it over.” He kissed the skin just above my collar bone. “And I want you.”

I LOVED Jesse. He was such a sweet and a wiser-than-his-years guy. I seriously loved him so much and how well he complimented Rowen. And of course, I loved his skin tight jeans that showed off his great ass. He was super supportive and understanding towards Rowen in making sure her dreams came true, with or without her mother's financial help. He knew she could do it. He was determined to make her see herself of a worthy person of love and not believe everything bad people would say to her, her mother included. I loved how he would comfort her when she needed it and protect her. He was just the most awesome and perfect character. It makes me wish I had a Jesse growing up, especially when I was in my insecure teen years. I can't say enough how much I loved him and how much he made me swoon with his sweet words. *sigh*

“I love you so much it scares me.”

"Are you done?"

It seemed the flood had come to an end, for the moment so I nodded.

"Good," he said, his breath warm against my neck. "Because I love you too."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

The storyline it self was quite interesting. I loved watching the transformation in Rowen as the book progressed. She was still herself, she just became more open. I loved any scene in which Rowen would talk with the sweet woman that is Rose. I loved all the advice she had for Rowen and how much faith she had in her. It was beautiful to see her have a mother figure in someone when her own mother was pretty much non-existant, even when she was there. I loved Rose's daughters as well and how they showed Rowen alot of kindness. Even Jesse's ex-girlfriend was super nice, which was refreshing. But of course my absolute favourite was seeing her with Jesse. I was just awesome! As much as I liked the relationship and character growth, some of the scenes were a bit predictable. I knew a few times just what was going to happen next and it did. It was a sweet light read, which was just what I needed after reading such a dark book. Still, the ending could have been better with an epilogue. If your looking for a great inbetween book, this one is it.

"It was easy to forget that other people lived in a world where rules and laws and common sense could keep you safe. A world where, if you did the right thing you were allowed to get on with your life in whichever way you chose."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I have no idea how to review this book. No bloody idea. This might end up being quite brief because I just don't know what to say. A lot of it might be repetetive, so sorry in advance, but my brain just can't function at the moment. All I know is, the writing was brilliant.

“I don't expect you to be like them. Don't want you to be. It's not them I want, it's you. From the moment we met, it's only been you.”

Lilith Bresson is a renowned independent artist who lives in Spain. One day her piece of shite father, asks Lili to help him pay a debt to Lady Blaine Albermarle. She initially refuses but after her father threatens to get a restraining order to keep her from her much younger sibling, she relents. She then agrees to paint a portrait to pay the debt. Little did she know that in doing so, she would end up in hell. I loved how freaking blunt Lili was. She was herself and no one else, and of course she made no apologies for it. She was feisty and funny in a sarcastic way. She was strong and witty. I thought she was the perfect person to challenge the Mega bitch that is Blaine Albermarle. As well as the perfect person to show Finn what love is and how it feels to have someone care. I loved this character and getting to be in her mind.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“What did you call me?”

“Ah. A chuisle. Gaelic. 'My darling'. I prefer the proper translation, mind you.”

“Which is?”

He gave a bashful smile. “My pulse.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Oh my poor beautiful Finn Strachan. How I wanted to hug him and kiss him and make it all better for him. I wanted to desperately help him escape the nightmare he was living. Finn was an Irish man that fell into the hands of Blaine Albermarle and became her "companion". What he really was, was a play thing, sex toy to be used in whatever manner you wished to use him. Even if that meant causing him bodily harm. My heart hurt so DEEPLY for him. I cried at what was done to him. I became ANGRY at those who inflicted pain upon him. It teared me up completely. My heart was chewed up piece by piece and spit out. That's how much I hurt for this beautifully wonderful man. A lot of it was quite graphic, so be aware that this is most definitely not for everyone.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“Lili- no ones ever done anything like this for me. Ever. Are you hearing me? I sure as hell know I wouldn’t have taken the risks you did today just for a whore.”

“Don’t say that.”

“It’s what I am.”

“It’s what she makes you do. It’s not who you are.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Then there was the super MONSTER heartless bitch from hell, Blaine Albermarle. Oh, how I friggin' LOATHED her!! I'm not sure I've ever hated a character more. She was a sick sadistic twat. I seriously don't know what to say... HATE just doesn't seem enough. The things she let happen, the lies, the blackmailing, ARGH!! I get pissed off just thinking about it. I wanted a terrible end for this crazy witch, and even though I didn't get to see it, I hope she suffers for it all. Throughout the book, I was plotting bad things for this character. I am not a violent person, mind you (yeah, I know you can totally tell by this review, huh?) but she brought out the worst in me. I wanted to kill her and save my poor Finn and Henry. And that's all I'm going to say about her. BITCH!

Nobody had ever said that to me.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

This book has scarred me. I will never forget it. It terrifies me completely that I know stuff like this actually exists and it SICKENS me. I repeatedly kept asking myself why I chose to put myself through this and to just stop reading the damn book. But the thing is... I couldn't. As much as I wanted to, Finn and Lilith would not let me. I had to know what would become of them. From the moment I read the first page, I was hooked. I was shocked, hurt, angry, felt love, sorrow, and laughter. This book brought a wide range of emotions from me. That's what the writing did to me, it was that amazing. Yes, the story contained some HIDEOUS AND HORRIBLE content, but still the book was great. If I had to complain about anything in the book, it would probably be the ending. Not because it sucked, because in truth, it was beautiful and I LOVED that it wasn't overtly sweet. I mean it just wouldn't have felt real. But it did leave me wanting more. So, I would have liked an epilogue or something. Otherwise, a fantastic read.

Please note that this storyline contains depictions of drug abuse, violence and non-consensual sexual activity. This may not be suitable for everyone.
The Gamble (Colorado Mountain, #1) - Kristen Ashley image

♥♥♥ 5 'Macho Mountain Man' Stars ♥♥♥

The Gamble takes place in a small town named Gnaw Bone, Colorado. This is the place Nina Sheridan goes to for a "timeout" from her fiancé Niles. When she arrives at the cabin she rented, she meets Max, the owner of the Cabin. Max only rents out the cabin when he isn't home, so there has been a mix up. He pretty much kicks her out of the cabin and tells her to go to a hotel. Nina gets pissed off then storms away only to get stuck in the snow and fall sick. Max finds her and takes care of her during her illness. He agrees to have her stay, and as time goes by, they start to fall for each other. But their lives are disturbed by the events that are occuring in town. One being a murder of man Max knew, and him being a suspect.

“You just need to know, I gotta fight to keep what we got so we can build on it, I will. Him, your Dad, you, I don’t give a fuck. In my life, I’ve learned when to let shit go and when to fight. This, babe, what we got, I’ll fight for.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

My sweet, sweet Holden 'Max' Maxwell... how I LOVED him. I want to be sick just so I can have him take care of me.... *sigh*. I melted with the way he cared for Nina while she was ill. He was domineering and very much an Alpha but it was never overbearing. He was super loving and I just wanted to kiss him for it. He took care of almost everyone in that town in some way. I loved the kisses to the forhead, him calling Nina "Duchess" and just pretty much anything he would do. And he does what every girl wants from her man... HE FREAKING LISTENS!! He made me swoon at how he remembered all the small things that had to do with Nina. He had a tragic past though, and still, he was kind and didn't stay bitter about what happened. I loved that he showed Nina how it's like to be in a relationship where she matters. He was just perfect... *dreamy smile* LOVED HIM!!

"There was a time in my life where I used to roll the dice. I did it a lot and I always lost. Every time, I lost and when I lost, I lost everything. So I got scared of rolling the dice. Thank you for showing me it was worth taking a gamble again, darling. It feels good to finally win and win huge."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I really liked Nina 'Duchess' Sheridan. She was definitely a feisty nut but I loved that she had some backbone. This girl can really stand up for herself, even when she's facing someone bigger and scarier. She will defend those she cares about. She leaves England and her dumbass fiancé to find herself, to figure out her wants. I loved that even though her past was not a walk in the park either, she remained strong. Yes she had a shield, but she was still very loving to those around her. I'm so glad Max was able to breakdown her barrier because together they were so freaking adorable. I love how independent she was and how she supportive she was of Mindy. She was an amazing friend. I just loved her.

image

Their romance was definitely what had me glued to this book. But I was also quite interested with what was going on with the case of the murder of Curtis. I wanted to know who did it. It was like freaking clue, and I love that game. I suspected a person and then I was SO shocked to find out who the killer really was. I had quickly dismissed this person and that person ended up being it. What also had me interested was the story with Mindy and Jeff. I was so happy for her, she's been through so much and all I wanted was for her to be blissfully happy. I'm glad she found that with Jeff. Niles... He was a friggin' idiot!...Nuff said. Damon... I just wanted to castrate him... Nuff said. Shauna... I hated the bitch... Nuff said. Kami was a bitch in the beginning, and in a way, I'm glad she had to go through all that she did in order for her to see the light. She may not be 100% bitch free, but she became better. I loved Nina's family, especially her mom, she was a hoot. I also love how Kristen Ashley incorporated Nina's brother, Charles into the story, that was awesome!

“You know, I do too,” I heard his gravelly voice rumble quietly.

“What?” I asked his throat.
He didn’t answer and when his silence lasted a long time, I lifted my head and looked down at his face to see he looked sated and serious.
“What do I know?” I queried.

His fingers stopped their roaming, one arm locked around my waist, the other hand slid up my spine and into my hair. His amazing gray eyes didn’t leave mine when he answered gently, “I do too. I said it the other day and I meant it.” His fingers tensed against my scalp. “I’m in love with you, Duchess.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

The ending was great. I liked how everything was resolved. But what I absolutely LOVED, was the epilogue. It was so adorably sweet. I had the hugest smile and a few tears. I loved it! I actually wanted to know more about Mindy and Jeff. But I am so happy with the HEA. I LOVED Max, I was surprised I really liked the heroine and the story was really entertaining. The only thing I could complain about would be the length. It was so long! But still, I really enjoyed it.

Alex would say I act the way I do because I’m scared of falling in love. If I were completely honest with myself, I would admit there was some truth to that. Love fucks you up, which is why I didn’t do relationships. Relationships lead to love and being in love opens you up to the possibility of getting hurt. Love rips your chest open and puts your heart out there to be broken. It makes you vulnerable and puts you out on display until eventually it rips through you like an emotional hurricane and destroys you. I’ve seen what love can do to people.

Wow... this book was amazing. It was full of passion, heartbreak, and a twist I didn't see coming.

image

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“I'm messed up, Belle. You deserve better than me. I'm scared of hurting you. I-I'm scared of ending up like my father.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Jack Falcon is the CEO of his father's company, which means he is wealthy and in the public eye. He is an attractive, arrogant, brutally honest, egotistical manwhore. I didn't like him at all in the beginning. He goes through women like an alcoholic goes through liquor. And he is totally fine with the way his life is going. He absolutely does NOT do relationships. Just of the sexual kind of course. He also doesn't do the same woman twice, unless they both understand it will not go anywhere more than sex. And this whole book was in his POV. It was very interesting to see every in his perspective. Even though he was an asshole, it was actually quite entertaining to read. I like the way he changes throughout the book when he meets Belle. I also liked his backstory (which was a sad one) because I got to understand why he is the way he is. It's all a facade so that no one can know how truly unhappy he really is. But when he meets Belle, he instantly knows she is different from any other woman. He is intrigued by her, especially when she treats him like he did to all the woman he slept with, a one night stand. He knows he wants and needs more of her.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

With Belle, I actually
wanted more. No other woman had invoked such feelings inside me. She aroused me, she amazed me, and every day she surprised me with her strength and maturity.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Belle was confident, strong, and sweet. She knew what she wanted and went after it. She didn't go after Jack like all the other women did, he chased her. I liked Belle, even though she was a bit too forward for my taste, but still she was a good character. She just wanted great sex from him in the beginning, she wasn't shy to get it from him. From their first passionate encounter, they can't seem to get enough of one another. As time passes, the more Jack falls for her. He starts to feel thing for her he hasn't felt, ever. All he knows is that it feels good. But soon some information is revealed that could get him into a lot of trouble. Information that also threatens to end the relationship they barely just began. Jack and Belle simply can't stay away from each other. Even if their love is forbidden, they continue the relationship and their feelings grow. The thing is, Jack doesn't feel worthy of someone as good as Belle. He is insecure of himself for the first time in his life. He doesn't think he can make her happy in the long run. Belle is determined to make him see that he is a good man, and nothing like the terrible father that raised him.

“I love you. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you that when it mattered, but I love you and I will always love you.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Everything goes great, so of course you know something bad will happen. Jack messes up, but what happened next completely shocked me. I had no idea whatsoever. My heart broke, and I ended up crying ugly Tobey Macguire tears. Even though Jack was such a jackass, I started to like him as the book went on. He was changing for the better, and yes he messed up, but I was willing to give him the second chance he needed. I thought he deserved to turn his life around and find the love and happiness he never got growing up. So when this twist came along, I hurt so bad for him and the tears would just not stop. It was such a great book. It felt more like a taste of all the good that there is to come from this series. If you like stories about forbidden loves, male pov's, and don't mind get hurt in the process, then I definitely recommend this book to you. Now, I can't wait to read what happens in the next installment. Thank you Missy Johnson for allowing me to read your book.

"You remembered."

His fingers curled around her neck and he put his forehead to hers before sharing, "I remembered, Rocky. I remember everything. I remember every...
fucking...thing."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

This book was awesome! I very much enjoyed it. Tanner Layne and Raquel 'Rocky' Merrick were a young couple in love. Everyone knew they were meant to be. But one day, Rocky just leaves him without a word. It left him with a pain so big, that he never really got over it. But time went on, and eventually he did too. He is now a divorced father of two sons. The book starts with Layne waking up in a hospital after being shot and finding Rocky in the room with him. He wants her to leave and he doesn't want her to go. Rocky seems to want to get back together. Layne wants that too but doesn't want to get hurt. In his next case where he investigates a dirty cop, Rocky wants to be a part of that too. so they form a plan to pretend to be a couple in order to do so.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I loved Layne! He was a great man and trying his best at being a great father to his teenage boys. I absolutely LOVED that this whole book was in his POV. He was a total badass alpha and very dedicated to his work, but I loved that he also took the time to spend it with his sons, who were badasses in the making. I felt for him and the pain he went through after Rocky left him. Yes, he did move on with the mother of his sons and other women, but he never loved any other woman like he did Rocky. I loved the pace in which their relationship developed. It was slow but steady. And when the bow chika wow wow times started happening, it was so freaking hot and yet so sweet. I loved it and him!

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“Don’t let me leave you,” she whispered so quietly he almost didn’t hear her.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Rocky was also such a great female character. She was strong yet broken from an event in her past. Which was quite a terrible event, my heart really broke for her, I can't even imagine going through that. And I couldn't believe that her family did nothing to help her get past that all these years. Despite all that, she was caring and loving towards others but I loved it when she was like that towards Layne's boys. I loved seeing them interact. She was in a loveless marriage and seeking for divorce, but her husband was not making it easy for her to get it. Never has she forgotten what she left behind with Layne, and now she wants to get it back, if he allows it. I really liked that when she let herself love, she made that person feel it. She was also quite protective and very capable in defending herself. I really liked her, and with Layne, they were perfect.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"Okay, well...yesterday sucked and I didn't like watchin' you go through that, Rocky, and I was thinkin' last night about it and thinkin' I didn't like watchin' that but why wasn't because it sucked, you havin' to go through that but because you were hurting and I didn't like watchin' you hurt so I reckon that means I love you," Tripp announced...
"So see, stupid."

"Not stupid, baby, and thank you. That feeling is mutual... for both you guys."

"Cool," Tripp whispered.

"Yeah, cool," Jasper repeated also on a whisper.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

There were quite a bit of subplots with all the investigative work Layne was doing. But also on the relationships of his two sons. I LOVED anything to do with Jas and Tripp, his boys were so AWESOME! I feel totally weird saying this about a teenage character, but I fell in love with Jas. He is gonna grow up to be one badass man, I just hope he gets a book when he is older, then I won't feel so weird about having a crush on him. I also loved Tripp, he was very endearing as the youngest brother and so sweet. I was happy that these two got a bit of a HEA of their own.

"Thank you, baby" she whispered.
"For what?" he whispered back.
"A beautiful life."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

What I didn't really like about this book, were the subplots on Layne's work. Not because it wasn't interesting, because it was, but because it became too much at times. I had a bit of a hard time following it all. I was like 'who's that guy again?' because there were so many characters involved. But otherwise, it was a very interesting storyline. I loved this book and loved it even more when Joe would appear *sigh*. I loved Layne and Rocky, especially when they would cuddle in bed. I loved his sons and the part they played in the story. The epilogue was so wonderful! I was very happy with it and I'm keeping my fingers crossed on Jas having his book. LOL! It was a really great read.

Cage (Corps Security, #2) - Harper Sloan image

♥♥♥ 3.75 STARS ♥♥♥

As soon as I found out this book was released, I HAD to get it. I LOVED Greg in the first book, Axel, that I couldn't wait to read this.

image

Greg Cage has been thirsty for vengence for what happened in his past for a very long time. But when he sees how happy Izzy and Axel are, he can't help but want the same thing for himself. He just hasn't found the right woman yet. In the meantime, he has sexual relationships with women but never anything more than that. When he takes Nate, Izzy and Axel's son, to the doctor he meets nurse Melissa Larson. It was lust at first sight. He's never wanted to see a woman again like he does with Meli. From that moment on, he knows he can't let her slip away from him. He must have her.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"You're a good man, Greg Cage. You give me some time, and I might just fall in love with you."

"That's the plan, Beauty."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

When I first started this book, I had a bit of trouble getting into it unlike the first book of this series. I remember Greg being such a sweetheart Alpha. It took a while for that Greg to show up. First we were introduced to the Greg that cares about the women in his life, but that could be a bit of a jerk as well and I didn't like it. I didn't know that Mandy, his psycho fuck buddy, would later deserve the way he treated her. Once he let himself fall for Meli, that sweet man I loved so much finally arrived. I loved the way he protected, loved, and called Meli Beauty. But my goodness, what I loved the most was how this sexy man would interact with Meli's nephew Cohen. I loved what a beast he became in bed and did I mention his cock has three piercings. So hot! Greg had his moments but in the end, I totally loved him.

image

Melissa Larson has vowed to never make the same mistakes her mother and sister have made, after her sister dies. She will never let a man control her or cause her harm. She is an independent woman who takes care of her mother and nephew. But when she meets Greg Cage, she can't deny the attraction as well as something more. Greg has the power to hurt her deeply and it scares the crap out of her. That doesn't stop her from trying at a relationship with him. She's been taking care of herself and her family for so long that she doesn't know how to lean on Greg. But she does know that she is falling for him and that it feels right.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"You don't have to be strong all the time. Let me take it, Beauty. Let me be your rock. Let
ME fight. For Christ sake, let me be who you need."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I loved the fact that Meli could take care of herself. But she was a bit annoying at first. I don't really know how to explain it, it's just that at times she would be too much for me. I mean I liked that she was a wonderful aunt to Cohen and how she took care of her mother. But at times she would come across as a bit bitchy. As the story progressed, I felt she became better. She could be kind and caring. There was a part where she stood up to crazy Mandy, I could not stop laughing and applauding her for defending herself. Seriously that Mandy was über cray cray. What I did like about her was that she didn't overreact when things got tough, she actually thought things through instead of letting her emotions get the better of her. That I did like.

"You're such a beast."

"But I'm your beast, and baby.. every Beauty needs a Beast."

"Yeah, I sure do." I laugh and wrap my arms around his neck. "I love you."

"I love you too. So much baby."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

The sex in this book was super passionate. Who knew Greg was such a beast and that he had cock piercings, that certainly made things interesting. But I'm surprised Meli could even walk with how much sex they were having. I think this was a bit too much at times, just because I really wanted them to get to know each other, and not just in bed. They had this connection they both couldn't deny, yet I was waiting for it to develop. When it finally did, I was so happy. Seriously, Greg was just so freaking swoony... the things he would say.

"Yeah, buddy?" He asks Cohen.

"When I get big like you, will my wiener be big too?"

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

OMG! Little Cohen stole my freaking heart. He was such a cutie with his hilarious questions. He would adorably fight imaginary ninjas while wearing a cape... so freaking cute! I loved this little boy. And my heart broke hearing him wonder about his parents. But the way he took to Greg was awesome to see. I loved it!

And right there, a tangle of limbs and our lips locked together, we both reach our release at the same time. Completely connected. Mind, body, and soul.

The book was able to get my interest more in the last 40%. That's when both Greg and Meli were more open, although I would have liked to have read it happen rather than time going by. It was also when some drama started happening and it had me so nervous and scared. The ending was good but I was left wanting more. I really wanted Greg's reaction, but oh well. I am now very much wanting to read Maddox's book. I liked the way he would act towards Cohen. I'm also curious about Dee and Beck, I wonder how that will turn out. I can't wait to read it!

"I got older and that changed and all I wanted was a good woman and a family. All my life, with a slight variation on theme, that's all I ever wanted. Buddy, you've given me both. You think, givin' me that, I could
ever balance those scales?"

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Oh Joe Callahan... How I LOVE you!! This guy... seriously... one of my all time favourite Kristen Ashley Alpha males. At first I thought he was a jerk. I was like, 'why do all these people like him so much?'. His fanclub was HUGE. Just when I thought I would be the minority and wouldn't love Joe like everyone did. We get his back story and my heart breaks so bad for him. No wonder he was such an asshole. He was broken by what happened and had pretty much given up on anything good ever coming his way. He didn't think he deserved happiness because he thought that what happened in the past was his fault. So he kept pushing Violet Winters, the widow next door with whom he has a sexual relationship with, away.

"What's beyond love?"

"Don't understand the question, Vi."

I didn't explain. Instead I said, "Whatever it is, that's what I feel for you."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Violet Winters suffered some tragedies of her own. The most recent being the death of her husband and highschool sweetheart, Tim. But what I loved about her was that she was able to pick herself up and move forward for her daughters. She was a great mother despite her own parents not being there for her when she got pregnant very young. She always tried to stay positive. When she meets Joe because of the loud music coming from his house, she is intantly attracted to him and scared of him. Still, she finds she wants to get to know him better, and find out why he is so alone. No matter how many times he pushed her away, she tried to break through his barriers so she could love him. Of course, Joe has to ruin it all so she gives up on him. Then Joe realizes that what he had and just let go of, he will never get again so he tries to get her back.

"You're mine, the girls are mine. I'm stakin' my claim with you right now and, you force it, I'll do it with him too."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Joe totally redeems himself! He made me swoon and sigh so hard. He was freaking perfect. I loved how alpha and protective he was with Vi. She was trying to move on with Mike but that didn't end up happening with how persistent Joe was to ger her back. But what totally won me was his interactions with Vi's daughters Kate and Kierra. OMG!! That was so beautiful to see. And the great thing was that these girls loved him back. There never resented him or ever thought he was trying to take their father's place. They welcomed him with open arms almost instantly. This was because they thought he was a good man for their mother, and they didn't want her to be alone anymore. Such amazing girls. I also loved that he wanted to show the girls that they deserved great guys who would appreciate them and nothing less. I loved that he was always there for Vi. Seriously... I love Joe.

“I’m yours.”

That socked me in the gut too, so hard it winded me and all I could do was stare up at him. Taking advantage, his face dipped close and his hands curled around both sides of my head.

“First fuckin’ time you smiled at me in my bed, that’s when it happened,” he murmured. “You’re under my skin. I’m under yours.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Then came the scene that wrecked me. Vi suffers another tragedy that had me bawling!! My heart hurt, I couldn't believe it had happened. She had suffered enough. She went out of control and to be honest, I don't blame her. I probably would have reacted the same way. When I thought I couldn't possibly love Joe more, he shows up to offer his support to Vi and her daughters. I can't tell you how amazing that scene was. It was so weird how I felt so completely heart broken for what happened and yet, be so happy because of how wonderful Joe was. This was one of my favourite scenes in the book. Just because, it was beautiful seeing them altogether like that. Joe was an exceptional step-dad.

Overall, this book will be a part of my list of top best books by Kristen Ashley. I loved Joe. It was really emotional but there was some parts with humor and suspense that really grabbed your attention. I loved Joe. The sex was good and didn't overwhelm you. I loved Joe. All of the secondary characters were also really great. I really like how Kristen Ashley always provides a support system for the main characters. I loved Joe. I am really intrigued by Mike and I can't wait to read his story, as well as Benny's. I loved Joe. I definitely recommend you give this a read, especially if you love alphas because Joe won't disappoint. Oh, and before I forget, I really LOVED Joe.

Out Of Focus - L.A. Witt image

Dante James and Ryan 'Angel' Morgan have been together for twelve years. They have a photography business together and are both doms. It's been a while since they have had a submissive. They have had quite a few throughout the years with the same rules that none of them are to get emotionally attatched. One day while working at a wedding, they think they have found one. The only problem is that the guy they want is the bride's brother. Which means, the only relationship they can have, is a professional one, for now anyways.

image

Jordan Steele is ready to move on from his ex, even if his ex won't leave his house yet. He finds he is very much attracted to both Dante and Angel. He hires them to take promotional pictures of his stallions. The domininant sides of Dante and Angel is what lures Jordan in and calls to his submissive side. They give in to the sexual tension and it works out just fine... in the beginning. But what will they do when emotions start to get in the way?

image

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

Holding my gaze, he said,"Do you trust me?"

"Of course I do."

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

This book started really great. I was intrigued, excited and trying to figure out how they could have a sexual relationship with two doms in the picture. Then when I realized that we were getting all of their POV's, I was so freaking happy. But then not so much anymore. Why? Well, because it became really hard to know who's POV I was reading, especially when it would change within the chapter. It was in first person, which I have never had a problem with, but in this book I did. As I continued reading, I got a bit better at figuring out who I was reading, or when it finally mentioned which characters he was looking at. But other than that, I did enjoy getting into each of their minds. It helped a lot to understand where they were coming from.

image

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

Angel's mouth against mine and Dante's lips against my neck was pure heaven.

Dante nipped my earlobe."So, would we have to twist your arm to get you to stay a while longer?"

"If you two keep kissing me like that, you'll have to twist my arm to make me leave."

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

There was quite a bit of sex in this book without it being overwhelming. After all, that was what their agreement was about, a purely sexual one. Jordan needed to trust Dante and Angel, so they "played" alot. The sex was of the BDSM kind, and I don't know if this because I am a pervy weirdo, but it was a bit on the light side. I was waiting for something intense to occur and it didn't really happen, I needed more. Still, the sex was all kinds of steamy. Dante and Angel were great doms and Jordan was an enthusiastic submissive. I like the pace in which their relationship developed, making it more believable.

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

But God, I loved them. All the trust and the intimacy, all those conversations. The way they could be so gentle and so rough. The way they'd never made me feel like the outsider I was. Commanding, never belittling. Dominating, never domineering. How could I
not fall in love with them?

"We're both in love with you."
"We both love you, Jordan."
"We're not going anywhere."

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

Despite having all of their pov's, I couldn't really connect with all of them completely, at least not until things started getting more emotional towards the end. I did however, feel Jordan's doubts at making their relationship work beyond sex. Not because they didn't get along, but because Dante and Angel had been together for twelve years, that's a lot of history for Jordan to just waltz in on. I felt like he could easily have been the third wheel, but I am happy that didn't happen. I LOVED the fact that they COMMUNICATED! It was wonderful when they could tell each other just how they were feeling.

image

Jordan had an ex boyfriend Eli who was still planning on moving out of his house, but hadn't gotten around to it because he was jobless. To be honest, I don't know why Eli was even in the book, he didn't really add to the story, they just made fun of him all the time. It was to the point where anytime Eli showed up, I just rolled my eyes because I knew what was coming.

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

Lying here with them, all I could think was that Dante was absolutely right: this was worth the risk. I couldn't predict the future, but I was content with the present and what I stood to gain if it worked out. Yes, this was right.

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

Overall, this book was quite an enjoyable one. Sure, it didn't have enough of the BDSM I am use to, but still plenty of sexiness. I liked reading about all three of them interacting. I also liked that each character had their own personalities that made them different from one another, but also had things that made them all connect. The ending was a good one and it left me wanting to read more about the love they had for eachother. There wasn't any angst in this book and I never got upset with any of them. It was just a good read.

"Put your arms around me. No. Eyes closed," Andrew insisted. "That's it. Hold me tighter. Open your mouth, but don't do anything. Leave it to me."

Cormac's embrace was warm and hard. This time, Andrew kissed the other man even slower, exploring more deeply with his tongue.

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

This book was so much better than I had initially thought it would be. The cover isn't that great, and the title, well... But the book was a real pleasant surprise. I didn't want to stop.

image

image

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

"Cormac," Andrew said the other man's name slowly, caressing both syllables with his tongue. "Youre the only guy I like, when I want to see a man's face, it's yours. When I want to hear a man's voice, you're the only man who comes to mind..."

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

Andrew Reynolds is a "straight" aspiring actor living in New York City. But finding work has been difficult for him. He urgently needs money to help his sick sister pay her medical bills, along with his own bills that are piling up. The only job he can seem to find, is the one thing he never saw himself doing... becoming a gay escort and pretending to be gay.

The whole book was told in Andrew's POV. I liked him a lot for the way he cared for his sister Marie. He was very encouraging and always trying to lift her spirit. He would read to her some "mommy porn" so that she could, for a few moments, forget she had cancer. That was really sweet to see. But he started off with a serious dislike for gay men, or a phobia really. It's all due to his upbringing involving his gay father. Andrew was repulsed with the idea of gay sex. Just because he will be an escort, does not mean he will be participating in any sexual acts. At least that's what he thought in the beginning.

image

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

"You are perfect." Cormac spoke each word slowly, as if articulating something he'd sworn never to reveal. "Sometimes you lick your upper lip before you speak. Did you know that? I first noticed in the Irish bar. Makes me crazy."

"Really? Then lick it for me... slowly."

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

Cormac Donovan is a closeted gay senator from California. When he visits New York, he hires a gay escort to keep him company. This is how he meets Andrew. He doesn't look for sex from an escort, just a night on the town. Andrew is nervous of his first official "date". He soon realizes there is nothing to fear, he really likes Cormac. The feeling is mutual. A friendship is formed between them.

I thought Cormac was a great guy from the start. I never had any creepy feelings about him. He seemed to genuinely care about Andrew and was always kind, concerned, sweet, and respectful. He always saw Andrew as a person, not a just as an "escort". My only wish would have been that he'd appear more in the book. I felt like we got so little of him and that there wasn't enough info on him to really get to know him like we did Andrew. Still, I liked what little glimpses we got. I couldn't wait for his return to New York so they could see each other again.

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

“That’s what you’ve done for me, Marie. Protected me from the day I was born. Been my best friend, my confidante. Kept me alive when I wanted to die. I love you. Don’t ever say you never accomplished anything.
Your life matters. It matters to me.”

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

The story had me hooked and all I wanted to do was keep on reading. I felt like with there being a character with cancer, it was written in a great realistic manner. It was sad for sure, to the point where I cried, but there was also some humour and happy moments that balanced it all out. As much as I really liked this book, it wasn't perfect. I thought that Andrew got over his vomit inducing fear of gay men rather quickly. I don't even understand how it really happened because it was just too fast. I know that Paresh helped him in his self discovery... but still, too fast. What I did like was that once Andrew accepted who he was, he didn't hold back anymore. He was lucky to share it with his sister Marie. What an amazing character she was.

image

There was plenty of steam in this book and some involving bdsm. It was hot for sure, but like I said before, I was highly anticipating any love scene with Cormac. Andrew helped Cormac (who was new to it all) discover his sexual side. It was AWESOME! I couldn't wait for ANY scene where they would interact. They were just perfect together. I was completely enthralled. I was so bloody happy when they became more.

image

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

"I love you, Andrew."
"I love you, Cormac." Cormac's grin took his breath away.
"Then I have everything I'll ever need."

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

The ending was a bit predictable but I still freaking LOVED it. I was so happy to see them together. The epilogue made me smile so big. It was great. Overall, the only thing I didn't like was that Andrew changed so fast in his ideas, and when he would work for Paresh and later on Sven. I just didn't really like them, well Paresh later on I liked a bit more, but Sven was a horrible man. Just like I didn't really like Andrew's gay father. Although, his partner Hugh was wonderful. I don't think I would really label this book a romance, even though there is a romance in this book. I feel like it was more about Andrew living his life and discovering things about himself that ended up making him a better person, while finding love in the process. I really enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Don't let the title or cover deter you from reading it. It might just surprise you. I recommend you give it a try.

I could see it in his eyes. He was seeing
me. Not the dolled-up feminine façade he'd first been attracted to, but me, without makeup, and stubble on my chin. He saw me, Daniel Anderson Marshal, man.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Meet Danny Marshal...

He was a totally different character to what I am use to when reading m/m. He loves makeup, hair, accessories, and of course, his passion, which is acting in theatre. And I loved him to pieces. The story was told in his fun pov. He may look quite "feminine" on ocassion, but he is still very much a man. His biggest dream is to be a big star on broadway, which is why he doesn't mind being the centre of attention. Danny is confident, flamboyant, selfish, sarcastic, a drama queen but also such a great friend.

His carefree life is turn upside down when he meets a jock, Lance Lenard at a frat party. Lance will not stop staring at him, and after the first words that come out of his mouth are insulting, Danny hopes to never see him again. Yet, he still can't shake off the weird feeling his stare caused. Lance soon pursues him in hopes to apologize and become friends. Danny is not interested in his friendship, but soon gives in. They start hanging out with each other but the attraction becomes too strong for both of them to deny.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared, because I am. I don't know if I am as brave as you are or your friends. But I'm done being miserable. I'm done missing you and wondering where you are. Driving myself crazy wondering who you're with." He brushed his lips against mine and spoke with our flesh touching. "I do know that I love you, all the rest is just details."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Then there is Lance Lenard...

the jock with the dream to make it into the NFL. He will do anything to get it. But he has a secret. He is attracted to feminine men. This information could mean the end of his career before it has even started. So he hasn't revealed it to anyone. When he crosses paths with Danny in his glitter, tight clothing, and six inch heels, it is lust at first sight. He can't stay away from him. And even though he has never tried being with a guy, Danny makes him want to try with him.

Lance was a bit hard for me to like at first because I didn't understand him. I didn't get what his intentions were with Danny, did he want to fuck him or did he want more? I wasn't sure. He was lost and hadn't come to terms with the fact that he was gay. He hid the truth behind his relationships with girls. Danny agrees to help him with experimenting with him to see what Lance feels. Soon after, they become jerk off buddies.

"You panic when I get a paper cut or stub my toe."
"That's because the thought of anything marring this perfect body drives me insane."
"You mar me all the time."
"Those are love marks, which only enhance your perfection."
"You're such a big sap."
"But I'm your sap."
"Yes, you are."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

As more time passes by, the more closer they seem to get. But Danny still guards his heart, after all, he doesn't do relationships. I loved how tender they were with each other, and how much passion there was between them. The sexual tension was always high and they seemed to not be able to control themselves. It was so cute how they would snuggle with each other. Again, I had a hard time liking Lance when it seemed that he continued to want to keep Danny as his dirty little secret. I know he was afraid, and I get that he had a lot to lose, he had worked so hard to get where he was at, but I wish he would have been less of a coward at times. I mean, Lance didn't even have a Plan B if football failed, that's how determined he was to make his dream happen. Danny got that. He knew their arrangements was with no strings attatched. But soon, feelings started growing. And because they don't communicate, things start getting bad between them. They become jealous of misunderstandings and hurt each other. My heart broke for them, I just wanted them to be together.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

"Like stupid jocks who don't have a Plan B."
"Do you have one now?"
"Yeah, I do." Lance took our joined hands and ran them down my cheek. "I want to be as happy as my sister and Bo are... I can only do that if I have you in my life. You're my Plan B, Danny."

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

There were a lot of emotions that I was feeling while reading this. I felt happy, sad, mad, and frustrated. I so badly wanted things to work out for them. There was a separation period and my heart was hurting for how much time had gone by. But it was really necessary. These two characters had so much growing up to do. They were both selfish, did things they shouldn't have, were ambitious, but under all that, they genuinely cared for each other. That is what kept me turning the page and had me not wanting to stop. They were adorable together. My only wish would have been to have a few chapters in Lance's POV. That would have made this book better. But overall, I really liked it. The ending was super cute. I really loved their HEA conclusion. I actually wish it would have continued, I loved it that much. I also want to mention that Bo was such an awesome best friend to Danny. I really liked him. It was such a great sweet and sexy emotional read.
