"Do not settle for anything less than the Jake Andrews of the world. Because they exist, and not just in fairytales."

Mikayla has a normal life. She has a quirky loving family, the perfect jock boyfriend, and a beautiful best friend. She's about to go to prom and life seems great, but that all changes in one day. After a series of devastating events, she is left feeling completely alone. Out of no where, someone enters her life and supports her when she needed it the most, Jake. He is a stranger, but somehow she trust him and become really close pretty fast. Soon, they can't deny that what they are feeling is love.

“God Jake, I so much more than a lot like you.”

“Mikayla, I passed that stage a long, long time ago.”

This one was a bit hard for me to rate after I finished. It kept swaying between a 3 to a 4. That is because I loved a some parts and others, not so much. As I started reading, I quickly become hooked to the story. Mikayla's life is turned upside down. She tragically loses her family, and finds out her boyfriend and best friend have been cheating on her for two years. I was so deeply hurt and pissed off for Mikayla. I was waiting to see how she would turn around from this huge event in her life. I liked that Mikayla was able to find the support system she needed in Jake and her new friends. I was hoping to see how Mikayla would struggle to stand on her own two feet and grow because of it. But I didn't really get to see that because by some miracle there seemed to be a solution for everything when she needed one. And that is when the book didn't work so much, for me.

“He's not the heart and flowers kind of guy, but he's the heart and soul kind, and fuck if every girl would rather that than flowers.”

Jake was an incredible character. One that anyone could easily fall in love with. He was so caring and selfless in how he let Mikayla in to be a part of his life. He was sexy, swoony, and with a yummy Australian accent. He has the coolest bunch of friends. Seriously, loved them all and they were freaking hilarious. Something I felt I was left needing, was more of Jake and his personal life. Hardly anything was really revealed about who he is and how he became the way he is. There were a few facts, sure, but I wanted to get to know him better. Why? because he stole my heart. He was just perfect and I loved him.

Once he’s inside me, I work it out, why I never felt like this before. Because if I compare my feelings for Jake to anyone else, then I know. I know I’ve never loved anyone before. Not even a little bit. Not even at all.

What annoyed me at times was how immature they both acted when it came to them feeling jealousy. They are both young, so I ended up overlooking it because of that. I didn't like how much the word "legit" was used. I'm familiar with how teens talk because of my younger siblings (so of course, I use it as well Ha!) and I get it, but it was used way too much. Another thing that didn't work for me was how they both never talked about their feelings. The sexual tension was crazy. They did some hot stuff, and still they doubted each other's feelings. It really frustrated me because the book became about that. I needed more to the story. The acutal sex scene did leave a bit to be desired, but I was really happy with the ending. It was sweet and heartwarming. It wasn't an easy journey to their Happily Ever After, but for the most part, it was an enjoyable one to read. It was emotional, but had such great humour and characters, and interspersed with steam. It may have not been perfect, but it was still a good read. I can't wait to read Logan's book next.
